Nurry Lee is a South Korean-British pianist who began studying the piano at the age of six with her mother. Three years later, she won her first concerto competition at the age of nine. She gained her grade 8 distinction on both the piano and violin when she was 11 years old and was offered a full scholarship and a Specialist place to study at Wells Cathedral School for 7 years with Head of Keyboard, John Byrne. While studying at Wells Cathedral School, Nurry won the Concerto Competition with the Shostakovich Piano Concerto which led her to work with conductors Christopher Adey, Paul Denegrev and Dennis Simons. She has been invited to play in many venues as a soloist, performing in Regents Hall, Colston Hall, Bath Abbey (for the Queen’s diamond jubilee), Pump Rooms, The Anvil, St George’s Church and invited to play for the Countess of Wessex.


As well as solo work, Nurry enjoys playing alongside other musicians and has done many collaborations with orchestras, choirs, big bands and chamber music. She is a member of the female piano trio, Trio Rouge, and have been performing around London and Europe. They were selected to represent the Royal College of Music in an intercollegiate piano trio competition and have worked with some of the greatest musicians from around the world, including the Harlem Quartet (USA), Trio Apaches and Alina Ibragimova. She also enjoys playing different genres of music and has been recording film and gaming music for Spotify for a few years.


As a soloist, Nurry has performed around the UK and abroad, having done concerts in Europe, America, Asia and West Africa. She won the keyboard section of the Gregynog Young Musician of the Year, Royal College of Music Concerto Competition, Rotary Competition and EPTA.  She gained international recognition as she was the youngest competitor in the quarter finals of the Sussex International Piano Competition, and in the summer winning a prize in the Virtuoso and Belcanto International Piano Competition in Italy, dedicated to Franz Liszt. Nurry’s recent performance has been performing Beethoven’s ‘Emperor’ Piano Concerto no.5 with the Basingstoke Symphony Orchestra at The Anvil to a sold out concert.


Nurry completed her Undergraduate and Masters degrees at the Royal College of Music, studying with Professors, Ian Jones, Sofya Gulyak and Dmitri Alexeev. During her time there, she was awarded the Milstein Scholarship Award to study at the RCM. Last year, she was accepted to do an exchange course at the prestigious Korea National University of Arts in Seoul, where she worked with Professor Jinsang Lee. She will now continue her studies at the Royal Northern College of Music with the Head of Keyboard Graham Scott, where she is generously supported by FW Wright Piano Scholarship.
